Job Summary 

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behavioral Intervention Specialist (BIS) to provide personalized behavioral support and intervention planning for individuals with developmental and mental health needs. This role focuses on addressing behavioral, emotional, and psychological challenges through assessment, evidence-based interventions, and ongoing progress monitoring.

The BIS will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team and provide counseling, guidance, and education to individuals, families (when appropriate), and staff. This position supports the delivery of high-quality clinical services aligned with the agency’s mission and values, incorporating the Behavioral Mental Health Model, Positive Behavioral Support, and Gentle Teaching philosophies.

The ideal candidate demonstrates strong clinical knowledge, emotional intelligence, and organizational skills, with a passion for improving quality of life for individuals served.


Key Responsibilities

Assessment & Evaluation

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to evaluate behavioral, emotional, and psychological functioning of individuals with developmental disorders and dual diagnoses.

Treatment Planning

  • Collaborate with individuals, families (as appropriate), staff, and interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement individualized treatment plans with clear goals and measurable outcomes.

Intervention & Support

  • Deliver evidence-based interventions and therapeutic strategies tailored to each individual’s needs, including:
    • Behavioral management
    • Skill-building
    • Emotional regulation
    • De-escalation techniques
    • Conflict resolution

Counseling & Guidance

  • Provide counseling, guidance, and support to individuals, families, and staff to help manage challenges associated with developmental and mental health conditions.
  • Offer on-site and/or remote support as needed.

Monitoring & Documentation

  • Track and document individual progress through data collection and detailed record-keeping.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of assessments, treatment plans, and intervention outcomes.

Team Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with psychologists, medical liaisons, direct care staff, and other multidisciplinary team members to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated approach to care.

Professional Development

  • Stay current with research, best practices, and advancements in developmental disabilities and dual diagnosis treatment.
  • Apply updated knowledge to improve intervention strategies and outcomes.

Compliance & Ethics

  • Adhere to all ethical guidelines, regulatory standards, and confidentiality requirements in client care and documentation.

Crisis Intervention

  • Provide crisis intervention support as needed, both on-site and via phone.
